Chicken or turkey could increase cholesterol levels like red meat

A recent study warns that the white meat of chicken or turkey increases cholesterol levels similar to red meat. In addition, it recommends the consumption of vegetable protein.

The consumption of white meat shoots up cholesterol levels as much as red meat. This is confirmed by an American study, which recommends reducing your intake and betting more on vegetable proteins such as soy, peas or vegetables. So neither steaks nor grilled chicken, better a tofu burger .

The work, published in the American Journal Clinical Nutrition and led by Ronald Krauss together with a group of scientists from the Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute, surprised even the researchers themselves: "We expected that red meat would have worse effects on our blood cholesterol than red meat." chicken or turkey meat , but no, their effects were very similar.

Vegetable proteins, meanwhile, do not provide cholesterol, are more satiating and digestive, and even cheaper. "Vegetables, beans, legumes... are definitely a healthier option."

For the study, a sample of more than 100 people between the ages of 21 and 65 was taken, who randomly consumed red meat, white meat and vegetables. Each diet lasted one month and the results were taken. Regarding food, the red meat was the cow, the white was the chicken and the 'green' legumes and vegetables.
